A fun exploration and exercise, which led me to reflect on the two portals in my current WIP, a collection of short stories. One occurs in a dream, but a dream in which the protag is able to return to the real world with a physical object. The other occurs when the protag is hiking, and finds the ruins of a place he can never seem to return to (but then does, after suffering sunstroke, and it's not actually a place in this world--which I think might be a uniquely SW version of a portal =).
